How to manage email forwarders in cPanel

Email Forwarders in cPanel allow you to send a copy of all mail from one email address to another. Let’s take an example if you have multiple email addresses like [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and you want all of them should be sent to one email address such as [email protected] . That way, you will no longer have to check all the email accounts.

Create email forwarders in cPanel

To create a mail forwarder, perform the following steps:

  1. Log into your cPanel.
  2. Click the Forwarders button in the Mail section.
  3. Click Add Forwarder Button.
  4. First provide the beginning name of email for which you want to create the forwarder.
  5. Then Enter the Address on which you want the message forwarded too.
  6. Select the desired name from drop down menu.
  7. Then there are options:
    • Forward to email address: Put the destination email address here.
    • Discard with error to sender(at SMTP time): Select this option if you wish for the E-mails to bounce back to the sender with an error message.
    • Advance Option: Click Advanced Options to view the following additional options:
    • Forward to a system account: Choose this option to forward incoming email to a system user.
    • Pipe to a program: To automatically forward incoming email to a program, enter a path to the program, relative to the account’s home directory.
    • Discard (Not Recommended) : Choose this option to discard incoming email without a failure notice.
  8. Click Add Forwarder.

Tip: cPanel allows you to send a response to incoming emails automatically.  This can be useful if you are unavailable or on holiday. Let’s learn to set up an autoresponder in cPanel.

Delete email forwarders in cPanel

To delete a mail forwarder, perform the following steps:

  1. Log into your cPanel.
  2. Click the Forwarders button in the Mail section.
  3. Click Delete next to that email address, and then click Delete Forwarder to confirm.
